Supervisory (~20% of your time)

  • Assigning and monitoring the work of the team so as to meet deadlines for client deliverables
  • Reviewing the team’s work for quality, providing feedback and additional training as required

Accounting operations (~60% of your time)

  • Advanced accounting support such as: complex transactions, investigations, analysis and reconciliations, software setup and implementation, etc.
  • Preparing sales tax (HST, GST, QST), payroll, and income tax returns (T1, T2)
  • Researching various accounting and tax questions
  • Communicating financial and other information to clients
  • Supporting colleagues in providing financial leadership services such as budgeting, cash forecasting and analysis
  • Supporting the development and implementation of processes & systems for both clients and Syncopate

WHO YOU MIGHT BE

  • You have a broad knowledge of accounting and taxation principles and practices and as such, you’re a resource in these areas for your colleagues
  • You enjoy teaching, coaching and encouraging others in developing their skills
  • You’re experienced in coordinating the work of a team to meet deadlines while maintaining a high standard of quality
  • You are communicative, managing the expectations of both colleagues and clients

COMPETENCIES

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Accountable: Cares deeply about getting results, stays on top of all responsibilities, consistently meets deadlines and communicates in advance if something will prevent you from meeting your commitments and deadlines
  • Coachable and willing to coach others: Considers themselves a continual learner in all aspects of life – both professionally and personally.  Is willing to learn from anyone regardless of their position or status. Is patient and willing to share their knowledge with others on the team, and with our clients.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: Actively listens.  Seeks first to understand.  Communicates their message clearly and assertively.  Takes a collaborative approach to their work.  Respects diversity of opinion and experience.
  • Willing to extend trust: You articulate your needs and give others a second – and third chance, if necessary – to do better

WHAT TO EXPECT

In this role you will start out working approximately 10-20 hours per week. As your client load grows, your hours may increase – at your option – to a full-time position (40 hours per week).  In this role you will work primarily from home.  Interaction with coworkers and client staff takes place mainly over phone and video calls, email and chat.  That said, when public health guidelines permit, you'll be expected to attend in-person meetings in Markham and around the Greater Toronto Area from time to time (e.g. monthly).

You’ll be provided with a laptop and monitor, plus an allowance to purchase a keyboard, mouse, and an office chair.  You will provide your own table/desk and a high-speed internet connection (required).

The starting salary range for this position is $64,000 to $78,900 on an annualized basis, depending on the candidate’s level of experience, education, and location within the GTA.  Because this is a part-time role, however, the equivalent hourly rate will be paid, which corresponds to $30.77 to $37.95 per hour.  All employees are entitled to 4 weeks annual vacation time off per our Vacation Policy (earned as 8% of hourly wages). After three months of employment, you will be entitled to our Health Care and Wellness Spending account, valued at $1,000 annually (pro-rated in your first year).
